Fayetteville, North Carolina – North Carolina police say they’re investigating the potential suicide of Marinna Rollins, a Military veteran charged with tying up and shooting her service dog on video as she and her boyfriend both laughed about it.
Fayetteville Police Lt. Todd Joyce stated Sunday investigators believe that 23-year-old Marinna Rollins killed herself. Joyce declined to clarify what proof detectives discovered. He says police were called to her apartment early Sunday after her body was discovered by friends.
Rollins and her 25-year-old boyfriend Jarren Heng were charged last month with cruelty to animals after investigators say they tied the dog to a tree and shot it a number of times with a rifle. Cumberland County District Attorney Clark Reaves stated the two could be heard laughing on a video recording they made as the dog was killed.
Court documents show Rollins received a medical retirement from the Army in January.
Police reports show that Rollins and Heng took the male pit bull named Camboui into a wooded area last week. After they got there, police stated she tied the dog to a tree and then shot him with a rifle five times.
Heng then asked Rollins to let him shoot the dog, too, and he then shot it five more times.
Rollins then dragged the lifeless dog to a shallow grave and said goodbye. She reportedly said to the dead dog, “It’s been real … I love you, you’re my puppy, you’re a good puppy, but…,”
Below is an edited version of the killing. The video does not show any gore.
