Ypsilanti, Michigan – Six thugs busted into a home in Ypsilanti armed with guns and baseball bats and robbed the homeowner of anything and everything they could get their hands on.
The residence is in the 700 block of Washtenaw Street and is located just blocks from Eastern Michigan University.
Police say the thugs stole money, electronics and possibly marijuana.
One thug is in custody and the victim is said to know the crook. He did not know the other five thieves though and they are still at large.
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the other five thugs. They are described as black males in their early 20’s.
Students at Eastern Michigan University are understandably unnerved by this latest crime and described their concern and shock.
“It is weird, we’ve had like other incidents we’ve heard about,” said Erin Anderson, an EMU grad student. “We’re like, ‘Wow that’s a block from our house.” He added, “It’s freaky — it’s right by the school and we haven’t heard anything about it yet.”
“Ypsi is not the safest place,” said EMU student Kyle Tillman. “But still, knowing that I live around here that an armed robbery happened. It’s kind of concerning.”
An EMU spokesperson says the robbery happened off of campus and there’s no imminent threat to students.
Police need your help to find those other five men involved. If you have any information, you’re asked to call Ypsilanti Police at (734) 483-9510 or crime stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
